We Finally Made It! – Conception Island, Bahamas, March 1, 2026
Well After nearly 6 years of cruising, we finally made it to Conception Island! It is a small island in the southern Exuma’s and very unprotected. The weather must be perfect for it to be comfortable to anchor here. It is tiny and, frankly, enchanting here. I have never in all our travels seen water this clear and sand this white! There isn’t anything on the island here other than the beach, but it is still worth the trip here.
It was supposed to have some of the best snorkeling but sadly, not anymore. Most of the coral here has died and besides a couple of large lemon sharks and some pretty reef fish, there isn’t much to see. We still enjoyed a nice couple of days here even with the couple of megs-yachts and dozen other boats who joined us. The mega yachts were 200ish feet in length and liked to play their party music at night. One of our friends told us the base price for this type of charter was $325,000 plus all your provisions (Food & Alcohol) in addition to the crew and tip. This puts this charter vacation on the $500,000+ budget. Yikes. Guess we will stick to our little 40-footer.

After a couple of days enjoying the water and the beach here, we headed back to Long Island to wait out a two-week blow. The winds are expected to be between 20-30 knots, so we are going to stay put for a week or two. At that point we plan to head back to Georgetown since it will be time to hopefully renew our immigration so we can stay a couple more months. In addition to that, our friends had some issues heading back to Georgetown and one of their engines has issues. Ron, the engine whisperer, has offered to help them fix it before they make their offshore crossing back to Virginia in the US.
